Countless so-called inspirational people say that they realised their vision, whatever their field. They saw it. They visualised it. What you see is what’s there: even if you see it in your mind’s eye…
But it isn’t there! It’s not real! I hear you cry (in my mind’s ear!), and yes, in a physical sense, what you envision has yet to occur and doesn’t exist at this moment in time. Time is relative. People far more knowledgeable on the subject than I will inform you that we have barely scratched the surface of our understanding of the nature of time. So why not keep things simple?
You see it. It’s there. Somewhere, sometime, somehow it’s there for you to see. Maybe it’ll never exist in a physical sense, but the possibility has to be there, otherwise you couldn’t see it, could you? And what happens if you keep looking at something and walk forward? You get closer and closer until it’s right in front of you. Who’s to say the mind’s eye doesn’t work in a similar way to the head’s? We certainly don’t understand it well enough to discount the notion…
Let’s be logical for a moment – Mr. Spock would be so proud! Riddle me this – how many winning athletes say they visualised themselves crossing the finish line, or holding the medal or cup? How many successful business people talk about their vision? It’s the people who achieve their goals that say that’s how it works, so why do we choose to disbelieve them? I’m not saying that visualisation alone is a guarantee of success. I’m saying it’s a common denominator among a great many people who achieve their goals, and we’d be foolish to overlook that. I understand taking things with a pinch of salt – especially from dubious sources. But these are not dubious sources we’re discussing. If the vast majority of people who get what they want give similar accounts of how they achieve it, it stands to reason that their methodology works, surely?
Perhaps we don’t want to believe life can be that simple. Perhaps if we acknowledge that we really can do anything, we lose our excuse to not do anything… Or perhaps some people really do lack the vision to even want anything more from life than a television, a game, a beer, a bet, or whatever else consumes their entire world. I say that because if there were any room left in their world, a vision of something to fill it with would come to them… Starting a family? A business model? An urge to run fast? Making a positive impact on the world at large? Introducing a synthezoid created by Ultron to the Marvel universe? The list is far longer than the scope of my knowledge, imagination, or this blog.
Of course, I’m sure there are countless people who’ve had such a vision and chose to ignore it. To turn away and pretend it’s not there. To tell themselves they’re happy as they are. To lie to themselves. At a push, they may be content, but they can’t possibly be happy if they’re denying that they even have desires, can they? And they certainly can’t achieve anything if they don’t even try… Then again, if someone clouds their own vision and lets their potential go unrealised, it’s their choice to make. As long as they don’t selfishly hold others back, it doesn’t affect anyone else does it? Maybe some people prefer to settle for contentment than to pursue happiness as such. Maybe it seems less risky. Then again, with the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of life, things will inevitably change at some point, however hard we try to maintain the status quo. It seems to me that choosing to make changes yourself gives greater control of the direction life will flow, but that’s simply my opinion.
Thank you for sharing my vision, dear reader, and I wish you every good fortune in realising yours. Take care of yourself, choose wisely and try not to think too much!
