About Once Upon A Word

Have you ever noticed how most words in the English language have two meanings? Or how several words can have almost identical meanings with only the subtlest difference in nuance? Does it not seem a tad bizarre that we choose such a complex method of reaching out and connecting with one another? Why not choose something more simple?

Maybe some thoughts, feelings and ideas are too complex to be expressed in any other way; perhaps a subjective, nuanced approach is the only hope we have of achieving true understanding.

With so many arbitrary, black and white approaches to things in the modern world (tick a box: yes or no) we are in danger of losing touch with the subtleties of humanity and, in turn, the beauty of individuality.

My name is Rebecca and I live in the U.K. It is my firm belief that by allowing just a few minutes a week to explore ideas, perspectives and words, we can grow as human beings by developing our understanding of ourselves and each other.

But by far the most important thing about this blog is that you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it! I’ll be posting every week, so drop by whenever you feel so inclined.

Last but not least: don’t think too much! You’ll wear your brain out.

Rebecca
